Yes I am a bad blogger……..

It has been a rough year so far, with a rampage of bad news at the begining of the year, but as I am finally getting through all that, things are kinda looking up. Next week the three of us are off back to Paris woop, disney Land this time just for a few days, but it’s going to be sooo much fun.

On the crafting front, I haven’t done much spinning at all recently, in some kind of attempt to knit more of my stash of yarn before creating anymore. I can’t say that this is working very well, as I keep getting too tempted by beautiful sock yarn, and now even the occationally bit of lace (yes I really said lace) I have been knitting a secret project for Nik’s mum’s birthday, (ok not so secret if you come along to knitting on a Tuesday evening) she is turning 60 this year, so I thought I would knit something special for her.

I have also done alot of sewing recently, I have made a few large bags on commission woop, and recently made some project bags which I designed myself.
Some of which can be found on the Squishy Stars Etsy site with these two being the latest uploads

I love this Liquorice Allsorts fabric, it was such an awesome find, I don’t know if it is possible to buy anywhere now, as Nik found it amongst his mum’s fabric stash, and she let me have it yeay. I still have quite a bit of this fabric, so it could turn up in lots of other little things too.

Well thats as much as I can be bothered to update today, I have abit more knitting to do before knitting club tonight, if your about pop to Starbucks in the Hayes from 5pm tonight πŸ™‚

So we spent the weekend in Paris and it was simply amazingful, I pretty much had one real goal to accomplish while we were there and that was to knit ontop of the Eiffel Tower. Of course we first went to London to catch the Eurostar, we spent the day in London and went to the science museum, and to be perfectly honest I really wasn’t all that impressed. There were a few pretty cool things to see, but as far as things to do for the Sofie I was really underwellemed. I think she had more fun finding the crocs shop.
We did find an awesome little veggie place to eat, called Food for Thought, where I had the most yummy plum crumble mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Friday ended up being a very long day, but so worth it. We left on the Eurostar pretty early, and arrived in Paris in time for breakfast. We spent the day wondering around visiting lots of beautiful places and knitting everywhere.

Which ended with knitting on the Eiffel tower, woohoo. I also got to have a wee on the Eiffel tower, which also made my day πŸ™‚

this is the view over Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower, with the Sock that I have been knitting. Points for anyone who can guess what pattern I have been knitting.

And well thats about as much as I can be bothered updating today, im still tired.

So I have been ignoring the blog again, I think I relaxed way too much when my dad went away. That and doing something a little strange, I had a star implanted in the back of my hand. The swelling made it impossible to knit or spin or craft anything, I discovered that my left hand is my pouring hand, so making tea just felt funny. It has been nearly 3weeks now though and there is no visable swelling, the star can actually been seen woohoo and I can knit, oh yeah can I knit.
I have finished off another jacket for my friends expectant baby, and I have knitted a hat, it is the Ribba (sorry its a ravelry link) by the talented Woolly Wormhead. The yarn is from Sarah’s shop it the Yoda colourway, and is soooooooooo lovely. I am one of the lucky ones to have scored both yarn and fibre in yoda woohoo

Oh yes in other news, while out on our charity shop travels last week, we found safety eyes. So we bought some and are going to trial them on our creatures, I think we will both still use the handmade buttons as it makes our creatures more unique. But there have been requests for more child friendly ones, so we shall see how they go. The first new creature complete with safety eyes is finished, he just needs a good picture taking day, and I am currently working on another creature too.
Neek and I have been taking about how to do our little give away, we are currently coming up with ideas, and already have some rather cute prizes. It is both of our birthdays next month, so it may be a birthday month give away, I guess we shall just have to wait and see.

double Oh, incase you wanted to see

Very busy, of course it was half-term last week so Sofie was off school and we also had a visit from Lewis for the week too. We figured out it must be about a year since we last saw him (he lives in Spain, but that might change soon), Sofie adores him, and of course we love him lots too.
We went to the climbing acadamy in Bristol, which is a pretty awesome place, and only makes me even more dissappointed in our local climbing center Boulders in Cardiff. We have been going there since it opened, but it seems pretty clear that Sofie is not te kind of climber they are interesting in having there. I guess this is where I realise that her learning difficultys can hold her back when it is clear other people have an issue with them.
We also spent lots of time playing games, going to Roath park, seeing all the cute baby swans, ducks, and other birds there. Although I was quite upset when I saw a large black bird try to steal a baby bird, luckly it dropped it, and the baby seemed ok, they all rushed back into the lake.
I have done some dyeing which has turned out beautifully, it is superwash BFL, I have never dyed superwash fiber before, but it came out lovely and sucked up all the dyes amazingfully fast.

Also as we have not been able to make any new sock creature for the last week, and it still maybe awhile longer we are thinking of running alittle competition. So look out for news on that in the next week or so…..

My mobile phone is broken, Neek and I went into town today, and while walking in from where we parked the car I slipped and fell. I am fine I landed on my butt, Neek thought it was funny, and I guess so did I. Only one thing, my phone slipped out of my pocket at the same time and into a rather large puddle. So it is dead, waterlogged and dead 😦
So to those that read this, and have my number I wouldn’t bother texting or calling if I were you. You are not going to get a reply, as I can’t even switch the thing on 😦
On a plus note, we did find some amazingful bargins in town today, including some pretty awesome socks, that will hopefully become sock creatures in the near future. Which reminds me I need to make some more button eyes, I have creatures that I made this week, who are all blind as they have no eyes at all.
In other news my dad is off to Canada tomorrow for 3weeks, this to me is bliss. Sometimes I just need a break from the stress that he tends to bring into the house.
Oh and I finished the little baby jacket I am knitting for Annalia’s baby due in August, it looks fantastic, ok I say finished but I do need to block it alittle, and attatch some buttons and buttonholes.

I spun up the yarn from the batt that Marianne sent me, I think I matched her spinning quite well. She has opened alittle webshop now selling her batts, I would highly recomend them now I have spun from one of them.

I also knitted some fingerless mitts for James’s (the dude from the climbing center) girlfriend, from some handspun.

this weekend has involved making buttons and stuff

Neek and I are thinking of opening alittle etsy shop to sell our crafty stuff, I have a few more experimental projects to do first but watch this space……….

This week has been the most stressfull week i’ve had in awhile, we all went to Neek’s parents house this year even though I really wanted to stay at home and have a quiet one. The reason we did is his dad had a DVT recently, and is still not better although out of hospital, and his mum was having a op on her eyes on tuesday so wouldn’t be able to see much so we were there to cook christmas dinner(at least thats what I thought).
You would think this would all be easy enough, but his sister and mum are the most highly strung people I have ever met. With me not feeling too good, and the stress seeping out of their pores, I really wanted to cry. Getting home late last night I was finally able to relax, and got the first whole nights sleep all week.
Sofie being sofie has been on top form witht the excitement of christmas, and her general energy levels. I hope I can try and get her back into some kind of routine this week.
I need a break, or a holiday away from it all, with no family arguing or complaining. In fact I could do with another 8hours sleep.
Apart from all the stress I did get some awesome presents, which include fiber, stitch markers, needle gauge, a picture, stary slippers, stary wallet (which is not leather yeay), and lots of lovely other things. Pictures shall be taken at a later date, when I find the camera.
I also bought myself presents too, knit picks harmony circular needles, some very pretty fiber and yarn ( I shall come back to link later). I was able to complete a hat which Sofie has pinched without even being offered, and I have started some new socks which so far are going really really well, got past the heel now with no mistakes yeay.

Well I haven’t updated for alittle while, mainly due to illness. I seem to have picked up every bug that is going around, and spent many days just sleeping and trying to feel better. I wish I could have done much more last week over half-term but Sofie was fantastic and could see I really wasn’t very well. I had blodd tests done last week but when I called to find the results I was told they need to re-do them argh, they have lost them or something, so today I have had more bloods taken andΒ  have to wait till next week to see how they turn out.

Halloween was fun, I made the effort to make myself feel good for Sofie, we went trick or treating and then she and Neek went halloween climbing. Sofie won second place in the fancy dress competiton, which she was very very very happy about. Her birthday is creeping up quickly and I am lost to think where the last 10years have gone, and how much my/our lives have changed in the last 10years. I feel like I am still searching for something though, I just wish I knew what it was.

This weekend made me smile lots even if I did get another bug again, I had a wonderful friend Angel come to stay with me. He has been traveling around Europe, and found time to come by and stay for awhile. We have talked on the internet for months now and it is so very nice to meet him in real life. Neek and Sofie both loved him lots too, so we had a weekend of geeking out, playing the wii, watching horror movies, that pair laughing at me jumping. My friend Beth came down too, we sorted her out with her first pull, she did a forarm pull with Neek, and Neek knitted while he pulled which made me giggle lots.

I finished knitting the hat I have been working on, but it is too small for me argh, this will teach me that I probably should do this gauge swatching thing, that I have never ever done before. So for now I am figuring out wheather I should give it to Sofie, or rip it out and start again………

In other news, I have been asked to spin some alpaca for one of the ladies from the spinning course, she wants to knit some gloves for her kids but doesn’t have a spinning wheel just yet. I should probably get a wriggle on and do that soon.

When I feel alittle better there shall be a photo update

Over the last few weeks we have been learning PGSS at Sofie’s school. It is a lovely school but very small, With about 45children in the whole school. Last week we talked about what we can do to raise money for the school at the christmas fair, and it looks like I shall spin and knit a scarf they can raffle off. So far my spinning looks like this…
P1030160
It is currently turning itself into a scarf which hopefully eveyone will like.
My sock project is driving me nuts, I tried it on the other day to see if I got it long enough before starting the toe, and it is too tight argh. I obviously didn’t cast on enough stitches, it fits around Sofie’s foot perfectly, but is too long for her so either way I have to rip out either a bunch of stitches or the whole thing, argh I am not happy but that is life.
This is how far I had got….

I seem to be finally getting over this horrible bug/cold/fluy thing that I have hanging over me for weeks, although I could still sleep for Wales. But now I am getting over it, I have one small person complaining of headache/backache and general unwellness with a temp, and a Neek that tells me he thinks he is coming down with it too. No doubt this weekend will be me looking after both of them.
I had my last spinning class on Monday, it is sad as I have really enjoyed just being able to spin with other people. But I did some more navajo plying (I think I have got that down now) and then we dyed what we made with indigo, it was funny as they all commented on the smell, but I couldn’t smell a thing untill the very end. Here are my efforts for the day…
P1030126
Most of this week has involved knitting myself a hat with the lovelyful handspun that I recieved in the spinners swap on ravelry. I finished it yesterday, but haven’t taken a photo of it yet, I shall wait for the beautiful Sofie to come home from school and photograph her in it. I now need to find myself another knitting project to take to climbing club on Sat, I love taking Sofie there as she has so much fun, but I also get 2hours of knitting and tea drinking in which is lovely.
Today, well this afternoon, Neek and I are off to learn some more paget gorman signed speech, I think being able to sign to Sofie definetly helps, and being able to understand her when she is signing is an even bigger benifit.
I have also started spinning some more fiber, I have a plan of a 3ply again, mainly beacuse I feel I need to work on the plying aspect. So more pictures to come…..
