Very busy, of course it was half-term last week so Sofie was off school and we also had a visit from Lewis for the week too. We figured out it must be about a year since we last saw him (he lives in Spain, but that might change soon), Sofie adores him, and of course we love him lots too.
We went to the climbing acadamy in Bristol, which is a pretty awesome place, and only makes me even more dissappointed in our local climbing center Boulders in Cardiff. We have been going there since it opened, but it seems pretty clear that Sofie is not te kind of climber they are interesting in having there. I guess this is where I realise that her learning difficultys can hold her back when it is clear other people have an issue with them.
We also spent lots of time playing games, going to Roath park, seeing all the cute baby swans, ducks, and other birds there. Although I was quite upset when I saw a large black bird try to steal a baby bird, luckly it dropped it, and the baby seemed ok, they all rushed back into the lake.
I have done some dyeing which has turned out beautifully, it is superwash BFL, I have never dyed superwash fiber before, but it came out lovely and sucked up all the dyes amazingfully fast.

Also as we have not been able to make any new sock creature for the last week, and it still maybe awhile longer we are thinking of running alittle competition. So look out for news on that in the next week or so…..

I have had a few days of being completely run down and unwell (no surprise there) but feeling much better yesterday morning I seemed to be able to get an awful lot done in one day. I cleaned, hoovered, tidyed up and even found time for some dyeing.
Over on Ravelry there is a dye along, with the theme of spiral dyeing, some people knew what this was, but having no clue I googled it. The amount of tie dye videos really inspired me (I should have been a hippy) so this seemed the natural way for me to go with this dyeing experiment.

After I soaked my fiber in water and vinegar, I rolled the fiber up into a spiral, and used some plain handspun to tie it up in a few places

I had already mixed up the dyes I was going to use, of yellow, red and blue so they were all ready for my little experiment.

I dipped the spiral of fiber into each of the colours, and let it soak for a few minutes, before dipping into the next colour. I re-dipped into the red after the blue as the colour was quite pale in comparison, and I wanted a deeper colour.

This is what it looked like before I steamed it, I gave it alittle squidge to try and blend the dyes alittle.

Here is what I ended up with after it had been steamed, now it has been soaked and dried over night I am quite happy with my results, although I still have a fair bit of white throughout the fiber (I quite like this effect) if I do this again I think I will let the fiber sit in the dye for longer so it hopefully soaks up more of the dye

And here is what it looks like braided up, you can see the amount of undyed fiber more here, but I really like the effect, and will definetly try this again.

I had lots of fun yesterday, spinning some beautiful bfl rovings.

I tried dyeing with acid dyes for the first time, on the stove top also for the first time, and im quite happy with my results so far.

And that stupid dreaded second pair of socks is now off the starting block and going pretty well, as of this minute I am about half way through the first sock woop. I can’t wait till they are finished.

Sofie went back to school yesterday, and although she was worried about not being in the same class as Ethan (her boyfriend) all was good. She came home with a cushion he made when he was on holiday in Turkey, it is so cute, and says Sofie love Ethan. She is all happy again, and sees him at breaktimes now
